Powercor/PRIME Business Excellence Awards winners announced
28 June 2008
The Mildura region’s top businesses received accolades at a sell-out Powercor/PRIME Business Excellence Awards ceremony today.
Top honours went to the historic landmark hotel the Quality Hotel Mildura Grand, which was named Business of the Year. It was also the winner of the Deluxe Accommodation (four stars and above) award.
Other major awards went to first time entrant Triggs Trellis Supplies, which won three awards: Small Business of the Year, the Innovation and the Primary Producers and Agribusiness categories. The seven-year-old company, based in Cabrita, focuses on general engineering, primary production and contracting services, particularly for the dried fruit industry.
Another first time entrant, Seasons and The New Spanish Bar & Grill, was named Medium/Large Business of the Year and also won the Hospitality Business Award. Restaurateurs Andy and Mandy Williams offer two distinct dining experiences in one location – a classic steak house and a slow food restaurant using prime local ingredients.
Global Roto Moulding, a quality plastic product manufacturer, was inducted into the Hall of Fame for winning its Manufacturing Processing and Construction category three years running. The company also received the Sustainability Award.
One category – Not For Profit – had a joint winner, with Mildura Private Hospital and Sunraysia Residential Services Incorporated sharing top honours.
The Outstanding Contribution award went to Wilma Bowring, a person who has inspired her friends and colleagues by her tireless volunteer work and leadership. A supporter of Sun Assist for over 20 years, and one could almost say part of the fabric that is the amazing Australian Inland Botanic Gardens.
The Young Achiever for 2008 is Camille Mansell, Camille Mansell, Economic Development Officer with the Sunraysia Mallee Economic Development Board. She has worked strongly to improve opportunities for young professionals in the Mildura region. She introduced speed dating to Mildura, participated in the 2008 Northern Mallee Leadership Program and has written marketing and communications plans for a range of local businesses and groups.
“Fifteen first time entrants either won their category or achieved a placing,” said Awards Coordinator Angela Drayton. “This indicates the high standard of business practice in the Mildura region. And competition was particularly strong this year, with a 26 per cent increase in the number of business entries.”
The awards ceremony, held at Settlers Mildura, was sold-out, with more than 350 local business people attending.
Business of the Year, Quality Hotel Mildura Grand, received an airtime voucher to the value of $1000 generously donated by co-naming and media partner PRIME. Wilma Bowring and Camille Mansell both received a 12 month membership with Aquarius Fitness. A full list of winners and placegetters can be viewed here.
